2013 so far

It appears our "count" for 2013 is up from 2012 just a bit. I think we have had around 30 cyclists so far. Last year, we hosted about 70 for the season. The year before was around 50, and the first year was about 35. Prior to this, we had a few guests before we were officially open - somewhere around 15. Word must be getting out that this is a nice place to stay!

We wish we could always meet our guests, but sometimes it is just not possible. We really enjoy hearing your stories! Since I have not tried a blog on Weebly websites before, I'm not sure how or if guests can add notes. If you see a place to respond below, PLEASE DO! We would love to have your feedback and comments. Tell us how your trip is going, what you liked about Colville, how we can serve you better, or what we can do to get the word out about our facility. Talk to us!

What a place. I'm so glad that I chose to stay here. A respite from nights under canvas with the comforts of a hotel. The Bacons are fantastic hosts and are really helpful. I called at their house to ask for a lift into town and I was taken in and given pancakes. Their missions are laudable and the world would be a better place with more Bacons on it.

Sounds like a nice place to rest from a days ride. Maybe I'll get there someday.

You really must stay at the hostel. It's an oasis of tranquility.

In 1987, my husband and I were just out of college in Wisconsin and we found an opportunity to bike across the country and then go to BC, Canada and then cycle down to Baja Mexico. We delivered a truck to Idaho for a friend so we started the bicycle trip right out of Boise. Then we headed north to the North Cascades Highway. When we got to Colville, we stumbled into someone who told us we needed to check out the bike hostel on the top of a mountain. It was the Northstar Farm Home Hostel. We started riding our bikes up the mountain only to find a large goat and a large dog that would not let us pass them no matter what! So we decided we weren't meant to go there and as we were riding back down the mountain, someone in a van stopped and told us about a hostel on the top of the mountain. We told him about the goat and the dog and he said he never saw a goat or a dog on the road the whole time they lived up there. Anyway long story short, we hitched a ride to the top of the mountain with him! It was the most incredibly beautiful place to be! The owners were very cool and a lot of fun to be around! They had calm and intelligent children too. It was truly one of the BEST experiences at a hostel during our whole 5 month trip! We toured on mountain bikes and were in excellent shape. We raced bicycles in college and just came off a fun race circuit. We picked mountain bikes for the trip (unheard of back then) because we planned to go to Baja as well. We eloped at the end of the trip and just celebrated our 28th Anniversary. We don't have a lot of photos from the trip since it wasn't a digital or social media time. We have a lot of stories and memories and a few photos from the North Star Hostel with us and the kids and the family!

Hello, Shelley and Barry!

My daughter, Molly and I stayed at your hostel on June 22, 2014 but I just discovered your website. I remember you needed to use us to determine which lemon squares you would bake for your daughter's wedding. Ha! I enjoyed that, playing your piano and, most of all, getting to know two generous people! Molly is now in her 3rd year of medical school and wants to become an ob/gyn doc. Cycling across the CONUS with her was one of the highlights of my life. Thank you, again for being a part of that! Here's a link to the blog we wrote:
